Chinese Terrestrial DTV Standard to Be Introduced in August
July 07, 2006
According to sources from China's SARFT (State Administration of Radio Film and Television), a new terrestrial DTV (Digital TV) standard will be introduced in China around August this year. The new standard, temporarily named CDMB-T, is expected to unify the three other DTV standards developed in China, including Tsinghua University's DMB-T (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting ?Terrestrial), Shanghai Jiao Tong University's ADTB-T (Advanced Digital Television Broadcasting System ?Terrestrial) and the TiMi standard of the China Academy of Telecom Research, the Ministry of Information Industry. The new standard, which has Tsinghua's technology as its core, is also expected to be compatible with the mainstream DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting - Terrestrial) standard in Europe.
